Mijas Golf Club
Marbella
With two of the busiest and most popular courses on the Costa Del Sol, Mijas golf must be doing something right. It has two 18 hole, Robert Trent Jones designed courses, Los Lagos (the lakes) and Los Olivos (the olives) both named for reasons that become instantly apparent.
Los Lagos is the longer of the two and it is named after its very thirsty seven water hazards. Otherwise it is a fairly easy course with large, flat greens, wide fairways and few tree hazards. It has wide fairways and few tree hazards, but cleverly placed sand traps and the already mentioned water hazards keep it a challenging course.
Los Olivos is a tighter challenge than Los Lagos it is slightly shorter with fewer water hazards and smaller more undulating greens. Of course there is the added difficulty of avoiding the abundance of olive trees which give it its name.
Both courses are extremely enjoyable to play and offer a wide variety of challenges. Although both are designed by the same man they are two very different courses to play both with merits.
Directions: Turn off the N340, heading inland, at km. 209 near Mijas Aqua Park, and follow the signs for Mijas Golf.
